Lightmakers Workshops

 December 6 & 7, 2025

Join Atlanta advertising photographer Joe Boris for a weekend of Lightmakers Workshops. Drawing from over four decades of image crafting experience, Joe distills the rules of light into fun and easy to understand lessons. The first will take place in-studio on Saturday, and the second workshop on Sunday will be outdoors at several downtown Panama City locations.

Workshop 1 will begin inside The Light Room studio. We’ll use professional ‘continuous lighting’ tools with different modifiers to show their effects in real time. We’ll make adjustments using light’s most basic rules to create beautiful effects. Then we’ll switch to ‘strobe’ lighting using the same modifiers and rules, and demonstrate how either source type might sometimes might be the better tool, for implementing your own photographic style, and personal vision. This workshop is open to beginners and beyond. Required materials - your camera.

Workshop 2 will begin with a meetup at The Light Room, before heading out with a model to 2 or 3 (pre-scouted) downtown PC locations. We’ll put strobe lighting into action during broad daylight, and then later at twilight, blending our ‘manufactured lighting’ with the natural light to create dynamic, atmospheric images no matter what time of day or lighting conditions we’re working with. This workshop is a good fit for intermediate photographers and beyond. Required materials - your camera.

Workshop 1 ~ Saturday, December 6, 10am-12pm, lunch break, 1pm-3pm, $150

Workshop 2 ~ Sunday, December 7, 1-3pm, break, 4-6pm, $150
