Walking as Witness - A Documentary Photography Journey

April 4 - 25, 2026

Inspired by artist Tammy Marinuzzi’s PondiWalk, a decade-long walking project that connects art, place, and social awareness, this four-week course invites students to explore the act of walking as both a meditative and documentary practice. Through weekly walks, photographic exercises, and reflective writing, participants will learn how to create visual stories that reveal the poetry of everyday life, the quiet beauty of observation, and the human connections that emerge through movement and attention.

Students will walk, witness, and connect learning to see with both their camera and their heart.

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Develop an understanding of documentary photography as a tool for storytelling and social awareness.

  • Use walking as a method for observation and engagement.

  • Practice composition, sequencing, and editing in photographic narratives.

  • Build a small body of work that reflects personal perspective and connection to place.

Required Materials:

  • Digital or film camera (phone cameras acceptable)

  • Journal or sketchbook

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Access to a computer for editing and critique sessions

Saturdays, 10am-12pm, a 4 week course, $150
